Description

The African Iris (Dietes) is a hardy, indigenous perennial ideal for landscaping, borders and mass planting. Each plant bag contains 3 individual plants, offering excellent value for larger garden areas and landscaping projects.

Available in two varieties:

– Dietes bicolor – produces pale yellow iris-like flowers with distinctive dark brown markings.

– Dietes iridioides – produces delicate white flowers with yellow, brown and violet markings.

Both varieties form attractive clumps of upright, sword-shaped evergreen foliage and produce successive flowers during the warmer growing season. PZA

Growing Conditions & Care

Light:
Plant in full sun to partial shade. Good light encourages stronger growth and more abundant flowering.

Watering:
Water regularly while the plants are becoming established. Once established, Dietes is water-wise and relatively drought tolerant, although occasional watering during dry periods can encourage more vigorous growth and flowering. PZA

Soil:
Dietes adapts well to a range of garden conditions but performs best in well-draining soil. Avoid permanently waterlogged conditions.

Growth Habit:
These plants grow from underground rhizomes and gradually form dense clumps of attractive upright foliage. This spreading habit makes them particularly useful for mass planting and landscaping. PZA

Flowering:
The iris-like flowers are individually short-lived, but established plants produce successive blooms over the flowering season, creating an attractive and long-lasting display. PZA

Maintenance:
African Iris is relatively low maintenance. Remove old or damaged foliage when necessary and divide mature clumps if they become overcrowded.
