Key Characteristics
Distinctive Foliage: It features large, glossy, arrowhead or spade-shaped leaves that can grow up to 22 inches (56 cm) long and 9 inches wide as the plant matures.
Burgundy Accents: It earns its “Burgundy” nickname from its reddish-purple stems (petioles) and the bronze or burgundy tint often seen on new growth and leaf undersides.
Growth Habit: This is a vigorous climber that uses aerial roots to scale trees in the wild. Indoors, it reaches its full potential when provided with a moss pole or trellis.
Variegated Cultivar: A highly sought-after variegated version exists (often called ‘Siam Sunrise’), which features bold yellow and cream splashes against the green foliage.
