Key Characteristics
“Cobra” Foliage: It features glossy, lance-shaped leaves that grow about 6–8 inches long. The “Cobra” name comes from the way new leaves point upwards and then fold out horizontally as the vines climb, resembling a rising snake.
Variegation Styles: Most specimens in the trade are variegated. The ‘Albo Variegata’ has creamy white or silver splashes and streaks, while the rarer ‘Aurea’ features vibrant yellow or lime markings.
Growth Habit: It is a versatile climber that uses aerial roots to scale supports. While it can trail from a hanging basket, providing a moss pole or trellis is the best way to see its true vertical form and larger leaves.
Stable Variegation: Unlike some other Monstera varieties, the variegation in ‘Standleyana’ is relatively stable, meaning it is less likely to revert to solid green.

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can survive in lower light, but the variegation will be less prominent, and the plant may produce leafless “runners” as it stretches for more brightness.
Water: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. It is sensitive to overwatering and root rot; always ensure a chunky, well-draining aroid mix.
Humidity: While highly resilient to average home humidity, it performs best in moderate to high humidity (50–70%).
Safety: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Like most aroids, it contains calcium oxalate crystals that cause oral and digestive irritation.
