Growing Conditions & Care

Light
Thrives best in full sun. Full, direct sunlight promotes vivid foliage colors and robust, compact growth.

Watering
Water regularly while young plants are establishing. Once established, Conebushes are highly water-wise and drought-resistant. Allow soil to dry out between waterings and avoid overwatering.

Soil
Requires acidic, nutrient-poor, exceptionally well-draining sandy or loamy soils. Extremely sensitive to waterlogged conditions.

Temperature and Climate
Hardy and well-adapted to South African conditions. Tolerates strong winds, coastal exposure, and hot summer heat. Protect roots from excessive moisture.

Growth Habit and Mature Size
Upright to rounded multi-stemmed evergreen shrub. Reaches a mature height of 1.5m to 2.5m and a spread of 1m to 2m, depending on the variety.

Maintenance
Lightly prune green, leafy stems immediately after spring flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushiness. Never cut back into bare, old woody stems. Avoid phosphorus-rich fertilizers.
