It has a distinctive geometric appearance and produces tiny yellow-green flowers (cyathia) in season. Slow-growing and highly ornamental, it thrives in bright light, very well-draining soil, and infrequent watering. Ideal for collectors and small container displays.

Description

Light:

Bright light to full sun. Indoors, place near a sunny window.

Water:

Water sparingly. Allow soil to dry completely before watering. Keep almost dry in winter.

Soil:

Use a fast-draining, gritty cactus mix.

Temperature:

Prefers warm conditions. Protect from frost and excess winter moisture.

Feeding:

Light feeding in spring–summer with a diluted, low-nitrogen fertilizer.

Growth:

Slow-growing, forming tight, knobby clusters. Handle carefully—latex sap can irritate skin.

Repotting:

Repot every 2–3 years in a shallow pot with excellent drainage.
