Semponium ‘Vortex’ | Rare Hybrid Succulent | 12cm Pot

Semponium ‘Vortex’ is an extraordinary intergeneric hybrid created by crossing Aeonium and Sempervivum (bred by Surreal Succulents in the UK). Named for its captivating spiral growth pattern that resembles a whirlpool emanating from the central rosette, this plant features rich burgundy to deep purple leaves with a vibrant green center. It combines the architectural stature of an Aeonium with the hardiness and offsetting nature of a Sempervivum.

Growing Conditions

Light: Full sun to bright indirect sunlight. Strong sunlight enhances its rich burgundy pigmentation.

Water: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly during active growth and reduce watering in mid-summer.

Soil: Fast-draining, gritty succulent soil mix to ensure optimal root health and prevent root rot.

Temperature and Climate: Well-suited to South African growing conditions. Protect from severe frost and heavy prolonged rain.

Growth Habit and Mature Size
Forms a impressive large rosette head reaching up to 50cm in diameter with multiple leaf layers along the main stem.

Maintenance
Low-maintenance succulent. Ensure good airflow and avoid letting water sit inside the central rosette. Repot every 1–2 years using fresh succulent substrate as the plant grows.

Best Uses
Ideal as a collector plant, focal container feature on patios or balconies, sunny garden beds, or rock gardens.
