Semponium ‘Destiny’ | Rare Dark Hybrid Succulent | 12cm Pot

Semponium ‘Destiny’ is a groundbreaking intergeneric hybrid produced by crossing Aeonium and Sempervivum (bred by Surreal Succulents in the UK). Renowned for winning Chelsea Plant of the Year 2021, ‘Destiny’ stands out for holding its deep, dark purple to almost black foliage color all year round, contrasted with a vibrant bright-green growth center in active seasons. It combines the architectural stature and branching habit of an Aeonium with the cold hardiness and offsetting capabilities of a Sempervivum.

Growing Conditions

Light: Thrives in full sun to bright indirect light. Maximum sunlight exposure ensures the foliage maintains its intense, dark purple-black coloration.

Water: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly during active growth (autumn to spring) and reduce watering during mid-summer.

Soil: Requires a fast-draining, gritty succulent soil mix to maintain healthy roots and prevent moisture retention.

Temperature and Climate: Highly resilient and well-suited to South African growing conditions. Protect from severe frost and heavy prolonged rain.

Growth Habit and Mature Size
Forms a large, dense rosette head that branches out into multiple stems as it grows, reaching an approximate mature height and spread of 40cm to 50cm.

Maintenance
Low maintenance succulent. Avoid letting water accumulate inside the central leaf rosette. Repot into a larger container every 1–2 years using fresh succulent substrate.

Best Uses
Ideal as a collector plant, striking focal feature in container pots on patios or balconies, rock gardens, and sunny landscape beds.
