Mammillaria carmenae, commonly known as the Powder Puff Cactus, is a charming miniature cactus recognised for its dense covering of fine, delicate-looking spines.
The spines may vary naturally in colour from creamy white and pale yellow to golden or reddish tones, giving individual plants their own character. Mature plants can gradually produce offsets and develop into attractive clusters.
Under suitable growing conditions, Mammillaria carmenae can produce small flowers around the upper portion of the plant.
Growing Conditions & Care
Light
Provide bright light with some direct sunlight. Outdoors it can grow in sun or a position protected from the strongest afternoon heat.
Strong light encourages compact growth and healthy spine development.
Watering
Water during active growth, allowing the soil to dry thoroughly between watering.
This species is susceptible to rot when kept continuously wet, so good drainage and careful watering are essential.
Keep considerably drier during the cooler winter months.
Soil
Use a very porous, free-draining cactus mix. Mineral ingredients such as pumice, perlite or coarse grit help prevent excessive moisture around the roots.
Growth
Mammillaria carmenae readily produces offsets as it matures and can gradually form an attractive cluster.
Feeding
Apply a diluted cactus fertiliser occasionally during active growth.

Avoid overwatering. A bright position combined with a porous growing medium will help maintain compact, healthy growth.

Plants will be shipped in 1-3 days after the order has been confirmed and all the plants are collected at the little cactus nusery for easy handling.
Succulents trays will be uprooted from trays to prevent damage, and they will be packed in a secure box.

In order for our plants to arrive at your front door in great condition, we have established the following shipping practices to ensure a safe arrival:
The succulents are removed from their nursery pots, stripped of their soil, and set aside to dry if necessary.
Each succulent is then wrapped in tissue paper to protect them during transit. The tissue paper serves two purposes; a) to protect the plants from one another and b) to wick away any residual moisture from the root system.
The wrapped plants are then packed into a cardboard shipping box. The voids within the box are filled with eco-friendly newspaper and magazine paper, in order to prevent movement of the plants within the box, and hence minimize shipping shock.
While this process requires a significant time investment, we feel it's the best way to demonstrate our commitment to delivering high-quality plants in great condition.

Shipping bare roots and soft paper wrapping provide the following benefits:
Prevent broken parts, fracture, scuffing, and fallen nodes/leaves
Minimize residual moisture within the package
Prevent soil getting into the leaves and causing a big mess
Reduce shipping weight and the cost that our customers pay
Some plants shown in 2" pots are shipped in their original plastic pots with soil because they are small and are less subject to damaging during transit.
When a shipping box contains multiple plants, we carefully wrap each individual plant in tissue paper, then fill the remaining space in the box with eco-friendly newspaper and magazine paper to ensure the plants don't move around during shipping, and hence minimize shipping shock.
