Description
Alocasia Frydek Care Sheet
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light.
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the velvety leaves.
Too little light may slow growth and cause leaf drop.
Watering:
Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
Water when the top 3–5cm of soil feels dry.
Do not allow the plant to sit in water.
Reduce watering during winter dormancy.
Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity (60–80%).
Ideal for bathrooms or near a humidifier.
Low humidity may cause crispy leaf edges.
Temperature:
Ideal range: 18–27°C.
Sensitive to cold; avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Keep away from drafts and air conditioning.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, airy mix (indoor potting soil with perlite, bark, and coco peat).
Excellent drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
Fertilizing:
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
Do not fertilize during winter.
Pruning & Maintenance:
Remove yellowing or damaged leaves at the base.
Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to maintain their velvety texture.
Repotting:
Repot every 1–2 years, preferably in spring.
Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one.
Dormancy:
Alocasia Frydek may go semi-dormant in winter.
Reduced growth or leaf loss is normal; resume care as temperatures rise.
Common Problems:
Yellow leaves → overwatering or poor drainage.
Brown tips → low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Pests → spider mites, thrips, mealybugs (treat promptly).
