Kalanchoe luciae, commonly known as the Flapjack Succulent, Paddle Plant or Red Pancakes, is a striking succulent recognised for its large, rounded, paddle-shaped leaves arranged in attractive rosettes.

The fleshy leaves are typically green to grey-green, developing beautiful red, pink and burgundy colouring along the margins when exposed to strong light and suitable growing conditions.

Native to southern Africa, Flapjack Succulents are well suited to sunny patios, succulent gardens, rock gardens, containers and water-wise landscapes. Their bold shape and colourful foliage also make them excellent feature plants when planted in groups.

Growing Conditions & Care

Light
Flapjack Succulents prefer bright light to full sun. Several hours of sunlight each day encourage compact growth and enhance the characteristic red colouring around the leaves.

Plants grown in lower light may remain predominantly green and can become stretched. If moving the plants from a shaded growing area into strong sun, introduce them gradually to prevent sunburn.

Watering
