Alocasia melo, commonly known as the Jewel Alocasia, is one of the most distinctive members of the Alocasia family. Native to the rainforests of Borneo, it is prized for its thick, heavily textured foliage that almost looks sculpted from stone.

Its compact growth habit makes it ideal for smaller spaces, while the dramatic blue-green leaves and deeply recessed veins create an unmistakably architectural appearance. Care Guide

Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct afternoon sun.

Water: Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry slightly before watering. Avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity.

Temperature: 18–28°C. Protect from cold temperatures and drafts.

Soil: A chunky, free-draining aroid mix containing bark, perlite and coco chips.

Feeding: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced indoor plant fertiliser.

Tip: Good airflow and excellent drainage are essential to prevent root rot.
